A great day out even though it did rain, but the steel band was great, lots of image potential as well. So much to see and do, but don't ask Steve about his lunch. Trains, boats and planes, with cars thrown in, who could resist. Great company, good laughs, and all home safely. and my car is now better, thanks for driving Duncan.

Lhottie at Calke Sunday afternoon

Once again Jim envigelled me into being his glamorous assistant, this time with Lhotte, so really did not miss the footy (well the Germans turned up anyway), much more fun out at Calke in the sunshine. Lighting was difficult, despite it being sunny (much cloud at times), but lovely and warm. Reflectors and flash just about made it. Just got the reflectors right and the sun went behind the clouds. It should be easy outside! Never the less Lhotte was very good, and very patient. Below are some of my images taken when the BOSS did not want me to hold his reflector.
Jims idea was for some Editorial shots using the light under the trees. I just enjoyed the opportunity to experiment with the light. No plan except Calke is a very good place with so many places to photgraph. I learnt a lot today, but time of day could be better, so next time will either be earlier or later in the day..
As Lhotte only had small sandles on we had to make sure that she was walking in an area without the thistles, and when she was not wearing shoes then to make sure she did not tread in anything she should not have been, especially as the cattle had been on the field.
When the sun was out the Gold reflector gave too much light(reflected under the trees on the model), the silver was also too much at times, but did good fill light to the face. The white reflector did not really register, although if placed close to the model it would have not been in the position to reflect the ambient light. Also had to be careful not to blind Lhotte.

This image was taken in the open with a cloudy sky.
Love this, taken in full sunshine and with a straight conversion. This is in line with my theme in the studio. I was pleased to get this effect outdoors as well.
Cheeky smile with my hat on, can't remember what I said now.
Somehow my hat got into this.

Just bursting into the sunshine. Fabulous dress, swayed in the breeze. I cant remember which pattern it is from the giraffe, not that Lhotte is anywhere near like a giraffe.

Mind the prickles on the grass, so many thistles, nice spot Jim!!
Peeking from behind the tree.
Lets pose now for Jim

New Quay day out

Our day in New Quay started for me at 0610 hrs when Jim and Pip arrived on time to pick me up. We had a beautiful drive to Cheadle with a wonderful sunrise and misty fields and we could have spent a good hour or so photographing the scenes around us, But no, we continued on our way to pick up Layla, the model who Jim had hired for the day.We met and were delighted to meet Layla, who was excellent company on our travels, and kept us amused with her tales of her modelling experiences. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine, and Layla did her stuff for Jim in the woods and a derelict building. We then headed for the beach. This was my second image taken of Layla. She soon however started to boss me about a bit, which was excellent as I was learning so much from her as to poses, direction etc. This was taken towards the end of the day, when it was starting to cool down. Well, not too much to say here, boys with toys and all that! The rock strata at the beach was superb and we made the best of it. This is a reflective Layla at the end of the day posing for Jim, to finish off a wonderful day. Layla was brilliant, and good company and very good at bossing us about, with great tips on how to go about photographing models etc. Some great tips. A good day out Gromit! Here is Pip getting stuck into her rock strata's, showing us how it is done.

New Quay Wales web site

http://www.newquay-westwales.co.uk/beaches.htm Check this site out, also mentions dolphins. Would we be that lucky? There seems to be lots of parking on National Trust beach car parks, so that may be one expense out of the way as it is free for members. I am a member, anybody else? It is 155 miles via Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth, and takes 2 hrs 40 mins according to Autoroute. Tide times for April Sat 10 -- 0630 4.0 m 1857 3.9 m
