These have been badly copied from a book but clearly indicate the level of lighting and the different types of lighting that were used. The top image of the lady in glasses was taken in a hurry(in her own words) and she thought it was not a good image, and that the photographer was not very good either. What did she know? The poses are quite sever in part, but do suit some of the subjects, for example Chris Ewbank and Francis Bacon. There are some softer images for the females, which does illustrate that his technique was particular to the subject. These images were from the book "Layers", which I found fascinating to read, and to explore. The portraits are very similar in alot of respects, so i would like to explore more of his work.
